What Are Modern Bath Cabinets for Vanities Made From?

“ Modern bath cabinets, what materials are used to make them?” This is one of the most frequent questions bathroom renovation experts receive from their clients.

Though the answer is reasonably simple, it seems that there are many different ideas about bath vanity cabinetry material types. So let’s try to get some clarification on this topic.

Bathroom vanity cabinets can be manufactured from many materials.

The most common is medium density fiber-board (MDF) because it is the cheapest.

Other materials include solid hardwood, laminate, and the latest trend is glass.

There are naturally pros and cons to all construction materials so we will take a closer look at each type:

Solid Hardwood – Modern bath cabinets made from hardwood will cost more, because not only does the wood have to be warp-proof by being completely dried, but the grain and color of this hardy material must be carefully matched.

Also, you need to know that the percentage of waste of hardwood during manufacture is high.

But the care taken in manufacturing is easily seen in the end result. Because a vanity made from solid hardwood is heavy, and has a magnificent finish. It is almost always varnished to show up the beauty of the wood grain.

MDF – This is an amalgamated wood product made out of fiber waste wood, bonded together with resin.

MDF is extremely versatile because it gives such a uniform finish, and when coated in paint, it won’t easily distort.

It copes well with the high humidity levels found in a bathroom, so there is no shrinking or swelling.

It also has an environmentally friendly appeal because it is made from surplus wood that would otherwise be nothing but landfill fodder.

Laminate – This manufactured material comes in an almost endless variety of textures and colors, from very realistic wood-look, to stone, marble, patterns and all the way to strong, solid shades.

Laminate is often used in commercial bathrooms because it is tough and easy to clean.

It can add a striking post-modern look to a bathroom or simply make the bath cabinets gently blend in with the tiles or paint. Glass – Although usually expensive, this construction material is trouble-free to care for.

It is favored by those wanting a modern look. Most glass vanities have exposed shelves for storage, and this can be a bit of a drawback because it means the shelf contents are able to be seen by all who enter the bathroom.

Another drawback is that glass shows water stains, and this usually means high maintenance.

Vanities made with glass are often matched with chrome faucets to provide a clean, sophisticated look.

Bamboo – The modern bath cabinet material of the moment. Lightweight and made from renewable resources, a bamboo vanity can improve the style and beauty of any bathroom.

There are significant differences in the design, building and craftsmanship. Some have basins available in tempered glass, limestone or marble.

Some of the vanities are finished in polyurethane which is effective at keeping out water and moisture.

All of the construction materials cited here are acceptable for the manufacture modern bathroom cabinets.

So when you begin your search for the ideal vanity for your bathroom renovation, you will at least know what material you want your bathroom vanity to be made from.
